CONGRESSMAN GOOD ISSUES STATEMENT ON VOTE AGAINST THE NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT

July 15, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bob Good (VA-05) voted against the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2023. This bill authorizes $850 billion in the name of America’s national defense. Unfortunately, this NDAA demonstrates the misguided and harmful priorities of the Biden Administration and focuses on advancing radical left policies at the expense of military readiness and truly diminishes the ability of our armed forces to protect the United States. Congressman Good issued the following statement:

“The House-passed defense bill will only further harm our long-term military readiness by exacerbating the recruiting problems which finds our branches at about 40% of their benchmarks for this year. Specifically, the bill treats our military like a social experiment and does nothing to stop the woke CRT and SOGI indoctrination plaguing troop morale. It does not protect our men and women in uniform from the unconstitutional vaccine mandate, but continues the dangerous policy that will result in the expulsion of tens of thousands of healthy young service members due to their vaccine choice. This is why I sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin demanding he rescind all vaccine mandates for our National Guardsmen. The Biden Administration is also telling our troops that climate change is the number one threat, and the NDAA advances policies consistent with that incredible assertion, such as efforts to transition to electric vehicles for the military. Furthering their commitment to increasing abortions, they are also prioritizing abortifacient coverage in military healthcare plans.”

“It is clear this America-last Administration does not understand the real security threats to our country or how to address them. Our border is being overrun by the Mexican crime cartels, we are sending billions of dollars of military equipment and weaponry to Ukraine with no plan or exit strategy, and we are becoming increasingly dependent on countries who hate us for our energy supply. There is nothing about the Biden Administration record on national security that justifies a single Republican vote of confidence or an additional $850 billion of taxpayer dollars.”
