Rep. Bob Good Calls Out Democrats' Latest Gun Grab
WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Bob Good released the following statement in opposition of Democrats’ attempt to politicize and expand the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act of 1994 (VAWA):
“Democrats are using domestic violence, a serious issue, as a front for their latest gun control bill. This legislation contains red flag gun confiscation language and expands the grounds for lifetime bans of firearms. I oppose this attempt to undermine due process, restrict the 2nd Amendment, and expand the Left’s radical gun control agenda.”
Background:
H.R. 1620 includes provisions that would expand permanent prohibitions on owning or possessing firearms by individuals convicted of certain non-violent misdemeanors.
- Permanently losing a fundamental civil right for a misdemeanor conviction is virtually unheard of.
This legislation would also allow for an individual to have their firearm confiscated without any due process, as it contains “red flag” provisions. This legislation allows for confiscation through an ex parte court order where the accused is given no right to face their accuser in a court of law.
