Rep. Bob Good Opposes Democrats' Assaults on the 2nd Amendment

March 11, 2021

WASHINGTON U.S. Representative Bob Good (VA-05) released the following statement in opposition to Democrats attempt to advance unconstitutional legislation that undermines the 2nd Amendment for law-abiding citizens:

“Our right to arm and defend ourselves is a God-given right, and we are privileged to live in a country whose founders had the wisdom and the strength to codify that right in the Constitution. Democrats attempt to create a de facto gun registry is another frightening example of their relentless effort to suppress the rights of law-abiding citizens. I strongly oppose any legislation that would undermine the 2nd Amendment.”

Background on H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446:

  • H.R. 8 would extend the current background check system, along with the fees and bureaucracy that come with it, to private transfers.
  • H.R. 1446 extends the background check waiting period for a potential gun purchaser. The existing three-day FBI background check period would change to a minimum of 10 days, with a petition process if there is no response. This bill provides no incentive for the FBI to complete a background check in a timely manner and could interminably delay a person from buying a firearm.
