REP. GOOD INTRODUCES THE CHILDREN HAVE OPPORTUNITIES IN CLASSROOMS EVERYWHERE (CHOICE) ACT

January 24, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bob Good (VA-05) has introduced the Children Have Opportunities in Classrooms Everywhere Act (CHOICE) Act. The bill will provide struggling families the choice of having federal education funds follow their students to the school of their choice or deposited into a 529 savings account.

“Authoritarian coronavirus lockdowns exposed the grip teachers unions have on our public school education system,” said Congressman Bob Good. “Increased parental attention to their children’s classrooms helped expose the woke agenda items, critical race theory, and racist discrimination towards scholarship awards. Now more than ever, parents want to have more of a choice in where their kids go to school. The CHOICE Act aims to give students and parents the ability to remove the bureaucracy tied to education funding and ensure that no student’s future falls victim to political games.”

The CHOICE Act helps provide choice in education for struggling families to deposit education funds into a 529 savings account to follow their students in public school, private school, homeschool or other qualified educational expenses. This bill would also streamline existing federal funding into two targeted grant formulas: the concentration grant and the basic grant. According to public polling, school choice is supported by most Americans, including a majority of Democrats.

“This legislation provides parents and students the opportunity to take control of their own academic future rather than be forced into a one size fits all solution. Every student should have the opportunity to succeed,” said Good.

"For years, many working-class families have had no choice but to send their children to the public school they have been zoned for, regardless of the quality of education it provides. The past few years have magnified this problem, as the Biden Administration and other Democrats insisted on indoctrinating our kids and wagged a battle against parents for being involved in education choices. Congressman Good's CHOICE Act puts these students first by giving families the opportunity to decide what education option works best for them." – Ryan Walker, Vice President of Government Relations, Heritage Action
